I got stronger and was able to recover from a hip replacement surgery with flying colors!

I came to Authentic Pilates in poor physical condition after many years of a stressful desk job and not enough attention paid to my own well-being. On top of a basic lack of fitness, I had also developed osteoarthritis in my right hip and was unable to walk without pain. It became clear that I would need hip replacement surgery.

Pam DeJohn worked with me for six months preparing me to get through the hip replacement. Pam is not only a Pilates expert of the highest caliber; she is also deeply knowledgeable about anatomy, physiology, and medical procedures. She built up my strength strategically and safely. I came through the surgery with flying colors and recovered without a single complication. I credit my successful experience to Pam and my surgeon equally. Not only could I walk again, but within a few months post surgery, still working with Pam, I was able to move on to some of the advanced Pilates repertoire. What a great sense of accomplishment!

To anyone who is contemplating joint replacement surgery I would say, invest the time pre-surgery with Authentic Pilates to bring you through in the best possible shape. Expert preparation makes a world of difference in your outcome, and true experts are not easy to find.

I love my new slimmer silhouette and muscle definition.

Authentic Pilates has been the catalyst for my transformation from a basically fit person to a person with a ‘Pilates body.’ In less time, with less effort and with less risk of injury than any other exercise or activity, I am remarkably stronger and in better shape than I was 25 years ago. I love my new slimmer silhouette and muscle definition.

I started out hesitant about the cost, but ‘How can we afford to keep doing this?’ quickly became ‘How can we afford not to do this for ourselves?’ The amazing improvements in health, the ability to stay active, not to mention keeping up with my very rambunctious 5 and 7-year-old great niece and nephew at the playground, are all priceless. All these benefits and the instructors keep the sessions interesting and fun to boot.

Pilates has done more for me than any doctor possibly could!

I never exercised before, and at 78-years-old I wasn’t sure I could do Pilates. From the time I started at Authentic Pilates Learning Center, it’s felt unlike any other place. The instructors and people there are some of the nicest I’ve ever met. They made me feel like part of the group. I’m more than a client. I belong there.

Pam is unbelievably knowledgeable about the body, every muscle and how it all works together. She’s also given me exercises and stretches to do at home. I do my homework faithfully along with my studio workouts. This has reduced my pain, made me stronger and better able to keep doing the things I enjoy.

No bones about it Pilates isn’t cheap, but it’s worth every penny. Otherwise I’d be paying doctor bills. Pilates has done more for me than any doctor possibly could. People my age might think it’s impossible to do what I’m doing, but, if they took the time to try, they might be pleasantly surprised at what they can do. I am.

Not only do I love my new sculpted Pilates body, I feel confident and energized.

I never dreamed my body could look and feel as strong and awesome as it does now. With the body sculpting from Pilates, I’m amazed when I look in the mirror. While I love the compliments I’m getting as people notice the new and improved me, the benefits that mean the most to me are the non-physical ones. I feel confident and energized. As the song ‘Don’t Rain On My Parade’ says: “Ooh, Life is Juicy, Juicy and you see I gotta have my bite, sir!…I’m gonna live and live now, Get what I want I know how…Hey world here I am!” Just walk in the studio door and you will feel the incredibly welcoming and positive energy.

I never thought I would be able to say "I don’t have pain today."

Four years ago, I experienced a trauma to my back that resulted in 2 herniated disks. In my journey to find out the extent of my injury, I learned that I also had a great deal of arthritis in my back too.
In July 2015, my sister, sister-in-law and mother had joined Authentic Pilates in Mahwah, NJ. They raved about how good doing Pilates made them feel and how I should try it out. These 3 special people in my life bought me a 3-lesson pack as a Christmas gift in 2015 to get me to try Pilates. Even after the first visit, I felt a difference. I had less pain, more flexibility and more energy to do things. When my trial lessons were up, I committed to 2 lesson per week.
I have been doing Pilates over a year now, and I am pain-free almost every day. Of course, I have setbacks, from time to time; but I never thought I would be able to say "I don’t have pain today". In addition, I am in my 50s but feel like I am in my 30s. I have a great deal more energy and more flexibility than I have had in years. …it’s a family affair and I am very grateful to my family for introducing me to Authentic Pilates—and the best Pilates teachers in the world for creating such a difference in my life."

My body became stronger and more agile, so much that people took notice.

I am a Sports Physical Therapist in New York City. Ten years ago, I found Pam as I researched qualified Pilates instructors. I wanted someone smart, intuitive, spirited, and talented. Pam exceeded all of my hopes and expectations from the very first lesson. It was hard work but Pam also made it fun. My body became stronger and more agile, so much that people took notice. The knowledge I gained from Pam also helped me in how I assess the clients in my practice. Eventually, with Pam's encouragement, I took on the rigor of also becoming a Romana Kryzanowska certified instructor and to complete my doctorate writing about the scientific basis of Joseph Pilates' work. Pam is passionate, compassionate, invigorating, inspirational, versatile, and dedicated. Anyone who has the opportunity to train with her is very lucky indeed.
